Our experiences

Year: 2019 – Present

Country: Burundi

The project will develop fish farming as a new profitable value chain in Burundi, together with local communities, which is based on sound natural resource management. Introducing fish farms in the Burundian rural area has multiple benefits, including more integrated and diverse farming, increased income for the rural poor from fish production for the market, and better health conditions of the population due to a more diverse diet. A Central Fish Farm will be constructed for the production of fingerlings to the 80 fish ponds and as a training and learning center. As such, fish farming will be a profitable and scalable value chain for smallholder farmers, providing an example on how motivated action can contribute to improved livelihoods and higher food security in Burundi.

The project was realized with the assistance of the SDG Partnership facility (SDGP) from the Dutch government.
